What Happens After You Contact Us

A lot of homeowners are not sure what to expect when they reach out to a contractor for the first time. Here is exactly what the process looks like after you submit the form or make a call.

Step 1, Initial Response: We respond to all inquiries within one business day. In most cases, it is faster than that. We confirm receipt of your message and ask any clarifying questions needed to prepare for the site visit.

Step 2, Consultation Scheduling. We schedule a time to visit your property that works with your schedule. The consultation typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the scope of the project. There is no charge for the consultation.

Step 3, Site Visit: We visit the property, look at the space in detail, and talk through your goals, your timeline, and your budget range. We ask questions and we answer yours. If we find anything during the walk-through that affects scope or cost, we flag it at this stage rather than after work has started.

Step 4, Written Estimate Following the site visit, we put together a written estimate with itemized pricing, material specifications, and a project timeline. We go through the estimate with you so every line is clear. There is no obligation to move forward after receiving the estimate.

Step 5, Contract & Project Start. If you decide to move forward, we finalize the contract with a detailed scope of work, a full specification sheet, a project timeline, and a milestone-based draw schedule. Permits are submitted, and work begins once approvals are in hand.

Why Homeowners & Business Owners in Eastern NC Choose D.E. Mitchell

We are a local contractor. The people doing your project live in this community, and the work we do here reflects directly on our reputation in a market where word of mouth matters. Here is what that means in practice.

We Do the Work Ourselves Our team is on-site doing the work on every project we take on. We do not function as a project management company that hands your job off to whoever is available. The same people who are accountable for the outcome are the ones doing the work.

We Pull Permits on Every Qualifying Project Every project that requires a permit gets one. This is not optional, it protects you legally, ensures the work passes inspection, and matters at resale and for insurance purposes. We manage the permit process from submission through final inspection.

We Communicate Throughout You have a direct line to your project lead from day one. We provide updates at key milestones, flag any issues before acting on them, and are reachable when you have questions. You are not waiting days for a callback on a project that is actively under construction at your property.

We Stand Behind the Work We walk every project with the client before we consider it closed. Punch list items are resolved before final payment. If something needs to be addressed after project close, we are here, not a regional office that has moved on to the next market.

We Are Licensed & Insured D.E. Mitchell Construction holds all required North Carolina contractor licenses and carries full general liability insurance. Documentation is available on request. Every subcontractor we use on a project carries their own license and insurance as well.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working With Us

Is the initial consultation really free?

Yes. The site visit and written estimate are both provided at no charge and with no obligation to hire. We do not charge a consulting fee or a design fee for the estimate process.

Start timelines depend on our current project load and on permit timelines for your specific project type. In most cases we can schedule a consultation within one to two weeks of your inquiry. Construction start dates vary based on where the project falls in our schedule, we give you a realistic start date during the proposal phase so you can plan accordingly.

No. We use a milestone-based draw schedule tied to construction progress. You are not paying a large upfront sum before work begins. The draw schedule is outlined in the contract so you know exactly when payments are due and what stage of the project they correspond to.

The more detail you can provide about the project, the better. Useful information includes the property address, the type of project you are considering, a general sense of the scope, and your timeline and budget range if you have one. You do not need to have everything figured out before you reach out, that is part of what the consultation is for.

This depends on the situation. If a project has been abandoned or a previous contractor has left work incomplete, we assess the existing conditions and give you an honest picture of what completing it involves before we commit to anything. Contact us and describe the situation and we will let you know if it falls within our scope.

Yes, the cost estimator tool on this site gives you a range based on project type, size, and finish level. It is a starting point rather than a firm number, but it gives you a budget range to work with before we meet. For a number you can actually plan around, a site visit and written estimate are the next step.
